Your game needs a story rooted in Africa. This is the most important step — everything else (art, mechanics, code) flows from the story you choose.

Where to find your story:

Browse The Africa Library for folklore, oral traditions, and history

Think about your own culture, language, city, or family

Research an African kingdom you admire (Ashanti, Mali, Benin, Kush, Great Zimbabwe)

Find a real African historical figure worth celebrating

Good African game ideas:

A puzzle game about Anansi the spider (Ghanaian folklore)

A strategy game about the Mali Empire

A language game that teaches Twi, Ga, or Hausa

An adventure set in Afrofuturist Accra 2150

A game about Yaa Asantewaa's resistance

Quick test: Can you answer "What African story does your game tell?" in one sentence? If yes, you're ready.
